Ive been thinking about this for a while now....
Would it be possible to have a forum where members can post songs theve wrote? Recordings, tab, lyrics, everything. I think it would be pretty cool :)

I think that some people would be worried of theft. Alot of people take pride in their work and don't want others to steal it and claim it as their own.

wouldn't posting your song serve as documentation that it is of your creation? for instance, if i were to post a song, then hear it a year later on the radio, i would think that i could sue for royalties by showing that i posted it a full year earlier than the other guy came out with it... i guess i dont know the law well enough to really say.
anyways i do know for sure that all you need to do is write out your song on sheet music and you can copyright them for a minimal processing fee. that is the proper way to go about it if you were really worried about theft.

Yeah a forum for recorded stuff is required. Many of us post ideas and songs, but they r all scattered over the forums. It be cool to have a forum dedicated to recorded material.

Yeah I dedicated a thread solely to the purpose of song lyrics, it would be kool to post your own songs but you could probably just start a thread, or your own thread (like technoaxe used to do, if you remember him.)
If you psot something, it will serve as documentation that you came up with the idea and will hold up in a court of law.
It's all up to Shawn. It's a kool idea but it may take up a lot of space, I'm not sure if cyberfret has the resources to do it.

posting it serves as proof that you wrote it, itll hold up in court.

yea good point
another issue of mine with that is...even if i do have proof it was me, i dont want some1 taking my song and getting recognition with it...i mean then theres no chance that ill ever be able to do anythign with it after an ugly court battle...and im not in it for the money,i just wanna play my music for people

I'm in it for the money, I'm gonna have a family to support in the not too distant future (marriage in 2007, first kid shortly thereafter)

So what happens if you post a song, say tomorrow, and then ten years from now you hear it on the radio. And you say "crap thats my song". maybe the forum might not be around in tem years, or maybe it's all new members and no one knows you posted it..
What are you supposed to do then,, well gee I posted it on the internet once,,, Unless you have it somehow prerecorded and dated I don't think there's any other to prove anything..

as long as you wrote it down on a piece of paper it'll hold up. believe me.

but how would you proove when you wrote ,, unless you had someone date and sign it as a witness..
Just sign the paper with date etc. and photograph it with a newspaper of the same date.

u cant really take some other persons song becauase u dont know the rythm of it or timing like it cood be 12:8
But you can easily steal a riff, or a melody from it.

In the end, there will not be a post your own song forum. Attachments are not allowed in this forum, so you could not post a demo. And no, posting a song in a forum is not the equivalent of a copyright. And no, I could not safe guard your songs, once you would post them here anyone could cannibalize the idea to their hearts content. If someone would really like to post their song in tab format, you can do so in the Music Lounge.
