Yes, normally it's a B.
So it would be:
el--------(High)
Bl-----------
Gl---------
Dl----------
Al-----------
El----------
Bl---------(Low)

what sort of string is it, ive heard that its the same as a g-string on a bass, but that could be crap. are there specific low b-strings for a guitar

I cant really help you there, that was about the only bit of usefull infomation I have on seven strings. I did read once that the gauge of the low B string was around 56. I don't know how accurate that is though, but I'm sure someone will know.
Are you asking because you want restring your six string to sound like a seven string?

The only reason I asked that rather odd question about restringing is because I was going to do the same thing, so I could play a particular Muse song (Citizen Erased) but it probably isn't worth it just for one song.
Anyone know if you can buy sets of seven srings? cos I had a quick look and couldn't find anything.
It seems a bit daft if you have to buy them seperately.

Yeah, I'm nearly sure that I saw such a set the last time I was in a guitar store. I think it was by Ernie Ball.

The 7th string can also be tuned to a low A! How is everybody?
