picking chords

can anyone tell me if there are any set patterns to picking chords
i have been trying to figure them out myself without much luck

are you talking about picking as in CHOOSING chords, or picking as in using a picking pattern to play a chord

I think he's looking for picking patterns.

It's always a good idea to pick the root of a chord first when you change chords. Then, work out a pattern that fits the song, but pick the root first whenever you change chords.
