Why don't I have any kind of signature guitar?

because you are not (as far as i know) part of a hugely successful band with an enormous fan base, and because even if you did have one, very few people would buy it. thats what the driving force behind signature models is - money. money makes the world go round. anyone with enough of it can have their own custom guitar built to the specs they desire, but in order for a manufacturer to mass produce that custom guitar and slap your name on it, they have to believe that they are going to be able to make money on it.
if everyone here really hates tom delonge and blink so much, then why do you spend so much time talking about him? i dont care for their music, so i dont listen to it. theres no need to go around spreading hate. many people like their music - get over it. personally, i have a lot of respect for just about anyone who makes it big in the music industry. it takes a lot more than just pure musical talent.
i say congrats to tom delonge for having his own signature model. it is a symbol of his success. i hope one day that i'll be in his place. the world is a competitive place, but you'll find that it's a lot easier if you carry a positive attitude.

Damn straight.
Too bad they're one of the many less-than-talented bands that grace the television set when I'm watching MTV. Which, mind you, isn't that often.

WRONG. no it doesnt. blink 182 dont have musical talent, and they dont do anything. i even doubt they write all their own music, i doubt they are even the ones playing on studio recordings. these people are puppets, just like all the other crap you see on mtv.
bands like led zeppelin made it big in the music industry. they get my respect. blink 182 dont. why? because led zeppelin worked their ****ing asses off, they each played such a large part in the success of THEIR music (and I say 'their' because they actually wrote it). their music is still considered amazing today. blink 182 rely soly on image and young teenagers to sell albums. why dont you think before you post.

calm down buddy... i did think before i posted that and i stand by it. i didnt say that blink was a bunch of virtuosos (sp?) or anything, but you can't deny that they do have SOME musical talent. maybe not much more than your average highschool band, but its not like they play out of tune and sing in the wrong key. in fact, i think that only proves the point i was making.
there are propbably a million people who can play the guitar as good or better than tom delonge, but they are not famous and he is. why is that? because he has something that they dont. maybe it is just his personality and image, but why do you hate him for that? bands (even zeppelin) have been using image for many many years to get attention and convey another dimension of their music.
maybe, and i have no idea if he really does or not, but maybe tom d. actually does work his ass off behind the scenes, writting all their music, helping out with the mastering/producing of their recordings, doing promotional stuff, and fighting for a new record deal. how would you know?
or maybe youre right and blink never really has done anything to make themselves deserve their populairty. maybe some record exec just saw them playing in a bar and decided that he was going to use his power to force them on the world and make them famous. big deal. thats kinda like winning the lotto, isnt it? arent you always a little bit jealous when you hear on the news about the pig farmer who won 300 million in the lotto? the fact is that once they were put in on tv and forced on the world, they werent rejected. music is a business and they have survived for quite a while now. that in itself demands a little respect.
dont get me wrong, i have different levels of respect, and bands like blink are way down below bands like zeppelin, but i can still appriciate what they have achieved. i wont pay for their music or support them financially, but i respect their ability to play music for a living, which is a very hard thing to do.

I gotta agree with luecke here. They may not be virtuosos or anything of the sort but they must have some kind of musical talent. I don't respect them much because of their music (but I'm sure they can play some pretty difficult stuff if it came down to it) but the fact they've broken as big as they have is respectable. And besides musical talent, they must be doing something else right if they're that popular. I'm hoping to be in a band just like Sugar Ray, awesome first two cd's, then sell out, become an MTV wh*re and retire, setting my family financially for life.

ok man, I understand what you're saying, but I dont think they worked as hard as they would of had they been a band that did all the work themselves (or example led zep)
and ofcourse touring and playing live and just the act of being famous is very hard for anyone, im sure
but i still think the reason they 'made it' is becuase they fit in with niche of teenagers who wanted to see a surf/punk/skate band, rather than because their music was good... but i understand with what you're saying too

It seems that blink is quite popular over there in the USA. Here, where I am, no one really cares about this band. I know it doesn't fit the discussion very well, but I wanted to let you know this.

I think the equivalent of Blink 182 in Europe is those bands who dress up in flourescent green and punch stuff into their laptop to make cheesy computer-voice sounds and stuff. Yeah, I saw the EMTV Music Awards, and I fell out of my chair laughing: there were three guys there dressed in black with neon green stripes punching numbers into their laptops and a picture of a bike was flying around or something.
