can I play bass through a guitar amp?

got loadsa money for Christmas, gonna buy a cheap bass, out of musical curiosity more than anything else. but do I need a bass amp for this, or can I just plug into my guitar amp?

bear in mind that I'm just buying the bass for a laugh, I won't be joing a RHCP tribute band or anything.

I don't really think you should do it, the low frequency could blow the speaker. If you have a cheap little practice amp and keep the volume down really low it probably won't really damage the speaker but the possibility is there.

i wouldnt do it Mr B.. i would by the most cheapest bass amp you can get... jsut grab like a crappy crate or some ish

It's not a good idea unless you want to blow your guitar amp and speaker. Buy a combo set from your local guitar store, they aren't really expensive and then you'll be saving your guitar gear from alot of pain or even DEATH!

it's ok, I'm playing guitar in a new band now so I don't really want to experiment with the bass thing any more, also I simply couldn't find a cheap bass! thanks for your advice though! you may have saved my amp!

hey im selling my bass and my amp for 175 they are both in great shape and arent like serious equipment....just to throw that out there in case you want to buy it or something
