I am running an Ibanez RG270 through a Marshall MG50RCD with Jackhammer Pedal, and I am looking to pull a Sevendustesque tone from it, the type of tone found in their new album on the song T.O.A.B, at the starting riff where the guy palm mutes and produces this lethal biting mute, which sounds like a motorcycle being started up.

Any ideas on settings to achieve this (IF its possible with this rig) I have tried just about every setting you can and can only get a pale imitation.

If theres no possiblity of getting it with my setup, (bear in mind, I am only trying to get as close as possible, I know I probably wont achieve *the* sound) any ideas on the least expensive avenue ?

If anyone has similar gear, and has achieved this tone, please reply if you can.

Thanks for the help from a newcomer to these boards,

I agree its a great amp, it was the best I could get within the bugdet I had and I cant say I am dissapointed. :)

the only think I found lacking was the distortion which is why I bought a pedal. Its a little too...... hollow (?) for me. this hollowness makes it great for lead and finger tapping cause its sharp and cuts through, but for rhythm and crunch, its a little lacking.

The jackhammer does well in this regard, but I cant pull that "phat swollen" but meaty and chunky barking lethal (too many adjectives :)) palm mute.

As far as people have told me, its possible to get pretty much any sound with a decent setup, regardless of if its a tube, a solid or what. *shrugs* but yeah I dunno. I am still mucking around on it.

Cheers for the reply anyway, no-one seems to have any idea, or they simply cant be bother posting

Ah well, not to worry.

yeah i know what you mean, sorta lacks the throaty growl of some amps, but as the majority of stuff i play is quite sharp, bluesy stuff i cant say it bothers me too much.
