How DO you tune to drop D

How do you tune to drop D tunning I just started playing guitar so I don't know how?

to tune to drop d, you get the lowest string, as in low E string and playthe 7th fret and tune it from there so that is sounds the same as the A string

you hit the harmonic on the 6th string (thickest), 12th fret, and then let it ring while you hit the open 4th string, then tune the 6th string down until they match (go slowly). Then you can check by doing what the_dot said.
