If you want to learn about improvisation just listen to the ALLMAN BROTHERS. After all they are the Gods of improv. Anyone agree??

Yes!!
A lot of people on this forum talk about metal guitarists. Many people in general fail to realize the talent that all of the Allman Brothers guitarists possess.

There were a cool band, from that whole "southern rock movement" Those were exciting times. Duane Allman deserves his place as a guitar legend although his life was short, but very influential. He played slide like no one else, of course he played the slide part on Eric Clapton's "Layla". His brother Greg Allman, he deserves much more recognition too. I could always listen to the Allman Brothers. Some great acoustic stuff too.

If you like the Allmans, give Derek Trucks Band a listen.
For Gov't Mule, get any of their albums (Dose, Life Before Insanity....)
Hey Franklin's Tower, don't say they "were" a cool band. Cuz they're still playing. Right now the Allmans are t their best since Duane's death.

Sorry i messed that one up!! Cant seem to quote it right! I said they were a great band because i think they were. Im not a fan of recent stuff. But im taking anything away from them at all. I seen them live a long long time ago and they rocked.

Anyone who hasn't heard the Allman Brothers should RUN to the nearest record store (or Amazon.com or whatever) and pick up their "Live at the Fillmore" recording. Some of the best rock/blues guitar work ever put on record.
I don't know if I'd call them the "Gods" of improv, but they're pretty damn good at it. They also are an example of bread-and-butter modal improvisation, if you are interested in that sort of thing.

"Live at the Fillmore"! Yes! Their version of "Stormy Monday" is one of the best (EC did the best).

Someone I'm surprised no one has mentioned is SRV. As nearly everyone performer who has played with him says, music just sort of flows out of him. Get a greatest hits album, a live album, or a live dvd, and be amazed.
Also, the Grateful Dead are great improvisors.
