Its been a while since I have watched the original Back to the Future.
So, of course I enjoy the Chuck Berry bit - and all the time trying to figure out if he is REALLY playing it (MJ Foxx, that is).
But, what I really would like to know is what the heck is the "Van Halen" song that Marty uses on his dad (George) to make him think it is alien torture. Thats a really cool sound, so I would definately like to learn to play it.
Van Halen (Eddie), has some of the more interesting sounds coming from a guitar...
Thanks

Ok... im gonan be of no help at all... and say that i have no idea what song that is from van halen...
But the Jonny B. Goode part.... Man if he isnt really playing that then they showed him exactly where to put his hands and all... it looks very convincing. But I kinda doubt that he is really playing it

I am no expert, and I am not even much of a newbie, but if he spent that much time learning the finger movements, he might as well go ahead and learn to play.
He didn't sing it, but that's either a fantastic fake or Michael J Foxx can play.
That's a fun sequence to look at for ideas :-)

i have no idea about the clip you mean, but i know how to do the van halen 'elephant' sound, which is pretty cool
all you do is put the volume right down, hit the harmonics on the 3rd string 5th fret, 2nd string 7th fret, 1st string 12th fret, lower your wammy and lift it as you open the volume again.. and you get a cool elephant noise!

michael j. fox actually does play the guitar, so he can look like he knows what he's doing.
man, it's been a long time since i've seen that movie, it used to be one of my favorites when i was a kid.

Thanks for the "elephant" sound. It works well, just like the cordless drill trick...
What do you mean? "...when I was a kid." :-)

on top of it all, that wasnt a LIVE sound. it was prerecorded.

yeah I'm sure he knows how to play the song but just faked it for that part of the movie, most stuff like that on screen is pre-recorded.

that's amazing, b/c you're wrong. MJF used to play the guitar, so he knew all the scales and such, and basically they taught him to play the song note for note, and they filmed him playing it....however, the recording has Mark Campbell on vocals and Tim May on guitar.
