Hello,
I just got an acoustic guitar for christmas, and have been looking around the net at guitar stuff. I was looking at some stuff about electric guitars, and was wondering a few things. First. What do the different pickups sound like. Does one kind sound soft or muted and another sound hard twangy or loud? or do they all sound the same just different quality? and second, how does the placement of the pickups change the sound. If someone could describe to me these details, or point me in the right direction (maybe a link or two?), I'd very much appreciate it! And I was wondering if someone could tell me if Ibanez was a good brand of guitars (their $200 - $400 price range models I mean). Thanks again for the help!

hmm, well there are humbuckers, single coils, single coil sized humbuckers, and active pickups
they all get different tones. All the different manufacturers have different tones, and different styles, etc. SO alot of work could be put into finding your perfect pickup. But you don';t have to worry about that as a beginner. The position of the pickup produces a different sound, the bridge is usually more raw, and get you a dry sort of sound. Where as the neck gives you a fuller, more wet kind of sound.

OK, thanks. :) I was thinking of something that would let me be able to change my mood :) . So I could play stuff from Fear Factory, and some from REM. . . =) I think it's gonna be a long day at the music store!

Youl never be able to play Fear Factory with just an acoustic guitar. Id have to suggest an electric guitar along with a bit of distortion to play that kind of stuff. I dont know about R.E.M. though. And if you do decide to get an electric, get one with humbuckers instead of single coils. Humbuckers are the pickups that look like two pickups in one. Just my opinion though.

Heh, I know that :) I mentioned that I was looking at electrics in my first letter. I didn't mean to play songs from said artists on my acoustic. But I have played Replica on my acoustic, it sounds pretty cool actually!.

Oh, But for those kind of songs, Id recomend an ESP with active pickups, also get a distortion pedal, itl help get those heavy tones.
