How would I use the slap funk method like the Bass Guitarist of Korn? He isnt slaping it, neither is he putting his finger under the string like many people have told me to do (check out the Freak on a leash live in singapore). He is just moving his hand up and down but I cant seel to do the "Machinegun effect" with the string, should I use both sides of my thumb? Or two fingers? Help!

I don't know if this'll help, but turn off your mid-range and turn your low and high to the maximum. That's how Fieldy's settings are. And... I can't really help you on the slapping.

fieldy is a fake slapper... he basically he slapps the strings with his index finger and middle finger... alos from time to type he plucks the as soon as he slaps them... hes ok.. not a fan of his tenique though

would this slapping from Korn be that percussion-like sound you hear in most of their songs that doesnt even sound like it has a note? If it is, all this time i just thought it was one of their guitars tuned down insanely low, so the strings just buzz and hit against the fretboard

bassists in a number of bands around in the last two decades have only only played open es and one other note in an entire song, its really sad

metallica's front lines have always had incredible ability, and their first bass had it too, as portrayed with Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), but when he died and his place was taken we never quite knew if the new bassist was hiding his ability behind 2 (or occassionally 3) notes or if he really didnt have any actual talent. so it goes to show that even some of the best bands can hide a talentless 3rd or 4th wheel behind the front lines just to kind of take up space

this is true... actually jasons talent is very much shown in load and reload.. and even in MY FRIEND OF MISERY and he can play songs originally written by cliff.. so hes no all that bad.. plus he also plays for ozzy now..

Concerning Fiedly, Korn tunes to a Drop-A tuning which makes his strings really floppy, I don't know if he slaps with his thumb but if not just hittin the strings really hard with his fingers would cause the detuned strings to rattle against the fretboard so it sounds similar. And the other thing he uses a lot is muted strings with his left hand while "slapping" that's the chacka-chacka chuck sounds you hear a lot.

Of course you're right I guess he just plays in a standard 4th's tuning but drops everything down a full step.

At any rate, I was listening to some Korn and his tone keeps getting worse and worse ... maybe he should tighten them strings up a notch - he might get some actual tone coming out of there...

korn's bass doesnt really even sound like a bass to me. to me it sounds kind of like someone rubbing a stick against an old washboard, but for some reason is matches korn's music's feel. also, how many guitarrists do they have? i know munky and head do guitar for them but does john do rhythm too?
