didn't know which forum this fits best, but...

when have to barre some strings, like when I play the A chord with only the index finger, or what the ring finger does in a 5th string root major barre chord, I notice that I do not mute the high E string.
I mean, it's not really a problem because the string fits the chord(s) anyways, but I wonder if my hands are somewhat different than those of others, because all the players HAVE to mute that string because they can't bend their joint backwards that far...
by the way, I'm not pressing down very strongly and it feels natural for the fingers to bend that far backwards...

Would just be interested in what you think about this...

oh, these are my "specs":
male, 17, playing guitar for 5 months (however "unusually" fast progress according to guitar teacher), also playing violin (8 years), piano (10 years), rather *small* hands

Since no one's answered, I'll just say this. You said it feels natural so it can't be that bad, just don't let it slow you down (not much good if you can form the chord but it takes about an hour ;) )

Small hands would definately help. I don't have small hands and I can do it if I take my time to get the position, but it takes too long so I don't bother.

In fact it's probably better 'cos you can form chords not many other people can do - its unique.

I have quite big hands with long, slender fingers and find i can barre an A chord without muting the high E, so your not alone.

obviously we're nothing but fecking mutants

ok, thanks! I thought there was something wrong with my fingers!

By the way, my hands aren't really small, they are more like Pezcore's, long, slender fingers. That's what I meant :)
