View Full Version : Q about an Acoustic Electric Guitar
Hi all
I'm planning on buying an Acoustic Electric (mainly looking at the Yamaha APX5A), but I have a question.
My amp's an old Ampeg VT-40. I mainly use it with my electric guitar, but I'm wondering if it'll work with an Acoustic Electric connected by an ordinary 8' cord. Is it necessary to buy an amp specifically designed for an A.E.?
Thanks in advance guys.

You can use any amp, or even a PA if you had to.

You can use a normal guitar amp, but you will get a better sound with an acoustic guitar amp. Just, if the guitar you are buying has a preamp on it, go easy on the volume with it, it's easy to overdrive the input stage of your guitar amp. Good luck.
Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it.

At one point I was looking at a yamaha acoustic/electric 12 string. Never found one in any stores to try it out though. Looked like a great guitar in catalogs n stuff, the specs looked like it was well built too. I like yamaha stuff.

Are there any suggestions y'll could give me about a moderately priced amplifier (under $300)? I'm looking at a Seagull S6 set-up with LR Baggs electronics. Any suggestions on the amp would be great!
Thanks,

You looking for an amp that will work for your acoustic/electric or just electric?
I don't do much acoustic, so I can't really help you with suggesting an amp for one... I've seen a lot of fenders around and Ibanez has a few acoustic amps. But don't know how they sound. Marshall has an acoustic amp too.
For electric guitar amps there are lots of threads here in the gear forum for you to look at. The mesa/boogie question is the latest one.
