hi there,
i was wondering if anyone knows how to wire 4x12 cabs. my amp is 75x2w stereo with 8ohm impedance each side. so basically i need to kno:
1. how to wire the speakers fro stereo or mono (8 ohm and 16 ohm respectively0
2. whether to get 8 ohm or 16 ohm speakers (celestion 12t-75's like they put in marshall cabs)
if neone understands that ne help wud b greatly appreciated.
cheers

So you want to build a 4x12 cab that is 16 ohms? Marshall uses 16 ohm speakers. I have the 1960A marshall cab. They have the speakers in series/parallel for 16 ohm mono, and parallel for 4 ohm mono. In stereo mode it is 8 ohms, so both sides are wired in parallel.

I hope this helps.

hey ESP, on my amp at the back there is these 2 speaker output plugs. Below them it says MIN 8OHM LOAD. So I was wondering, what does that mean exactly? Does that mean I could hook up a 4x12 cabinet? Does it mean that each speaker has to be 8 ohms or more? or less? Yeah, can you help me out dude?

That means you can hook up a 4x12 yes. But it has to be at least 8 ohms. So you can run a 16 ohm cab on it, just you will loose volume. A cabinet's impedance is the total impedance. Not the individual speakers. A cabinet will have the rating on it somewhere. Like a peavey 5150 4x12 cab is 16 ohms, your amp can drive that. A marshall JCM900 1960 cab would be perfect, since you amp has two 8 ohm outputs, you can run the 1960 stereo, the stereo inputs are 8 ohms. Doesn't get much better than that.

thanx for that man, Coz I've been contemplating whether I could or couldn't buy a 4x12 cab. Now I just have to decide which one =]]]
Thanx again

right, what is a cabinet? and why is a cabinet good? im presuming the head goes on the cabinet, but..
..whats the use?
im terrible when it comes to amps!
is it..you hook the amp up to the cabinet which is like, several speakers in a 'cabinet', that will basically multiply the sound?

A cabinet is just a box that holds speakers. A 4x12 is the popular choice, just because it's what sounds best. More speakers means the more air you're able to move, which means more volume. The head goes on top of the cab. The head is the amp, which powers the speaker cabinet. A head and cab setup is nice because you can always put a different head on the cab, or a different cab under the head. It's very versital that way. If you are playing a show with another band, and you both have a head and cab, you could just bring your head and plug into his cab when you play. But a cab is pretty heavy, and heads are too. So you get better sound and more volume, but it's a lot more weight to move around. I'm not a big guy, so I don't like moving my cab around. But, it's something I gotta do.
