Any suggestions?

I been playing the guitar for 3 yrs.. KNow some blue imrpov on the pentatonic and the blues scale..

Am looking for a teacher to teach me 2 aspects:
1. some good 2-3 note chords to accompany my playing (like Hendrix or the old school blues players)
2. great soloing (definitely NOT speed metal, but good music in general)

thanks

Hi wilds, thanks again -- but i'm looking for a teacher who could look at and hear my style of playing and hear me improve upon it in the above 2 ways...and any help from any body about a teacher would be a real help.

NOT necessarily a Very good player but a very good teacher.

thanks

I don't know any teachers in the NY area but you might be able to tell how good they are just by talking to them, if not just ask for a little quick "tryout" and maybe that'll help.

How could I start -- I went to a few teachers through Craigslist and they were not very encouraging... one of them said "if you wanna play Metallica you gotta practice 8 hrs every day, man! and I aint up for that ****"
...And i went there for blues lessons.

I dont wanna go there and try it out... and spend 50bucks each time

Surely there'll be some well known guitar teachers in NYC

$50 a lesson? That's not worth it, I paid about $90 a month.

I'll keep an ear out for good teachers around here, I'm not too far from NYC...

Am at the Bronx, will shift soon to Bklyn/Queens soon.

Am willing to travel to Jersey if the quality of lessons is real good.
(How much do the lessons cost?)

Also would prefer an experienced teacher rather than an excellent player who's just starting out to teach.

Peace

well lessons all depend on were you go... they charge mostly by the hour.. average i would say is about 25 bucks a lesson and hour lesson.. but it varies.... as for quality teacher you just have to go around to different places and see who is who and what is what

maybe check the classifieds

If you live in NY, you can try Jimis Guitar Workshop. Ask for Brian actually, he's my teacher. He can teach you every single thing about jazz, and he can play 20 times faster then the guys from Judas Priest.

According to MetallicaGirl, that would be 60 thousand miles an hour.
