I want to know how I can play reggae using the pentatonic scale.
BTW I heard malinese soloing is really cool.......so does anyone know how to do that with the pentatonic scale.

well basically you've just gotta get a reggae beat going. I think thats where reggae is really at, in the beat.

True, Reggae is mainly a rhythm guitar thing. If you mean solo over a reggae rhythm, you might want to try the major pentatonic instead of the minor (which also works, but the major might sound better to you).

One key thing that I've found is to play a bit like funk guitar. Arpeggiate a bit, and when you're using the pent, shorten notes. Never litle them ring out. use some 8ths and 16ths, but not too fast otherwise ur gonna throw of the groove your bass players setting.

But all in all, i've found that any pent solo, provided it's not too slow, will work fairly well if you've got a decent rhythm section backing you. other than that, just have fun. thats what reggae is all about.

Good luck!

Pinch Harmonics would do a good job of shortening the note. They also give your solos the exotic feel of reggae/ska when used generously.
