I need help

I just started to play guitar about a week ago. Whenever I play chords my fingers always touch the other strings and a dull sound is produced. I have been trying to fix this problem for quite some time now and have been unable to do so. What am i doing wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks.

This is normal. The main thing is not to give up.

To answer your question more directly, however, you're probably not getting your fingers "up" on the fretboard enough. Consequently, they're lying on top of other strings, muting them. Move your thumb a little further towards the floor and you should be able to arc your fingers down onto the strings more. Keep workin' at it, you'll get it.
