hi to all
i would like to ask a question about the minor pentatonic scale.
in the lesson on this topic on cyberfret.com, the various positions on which the G minor pentatonic scale can be played on are shown (3rd, 6th, 8th, 10th and 13th fret). to play other minor pentatonic scales (eg c,d,e,f etc...) do i just apply the same diagrams but at different frets? for example, if i want to play F minor do i use the same diagrams shown but change it to the1st, 4th, 6th, 8th and 11th frets? if so, doesnt it mean that there will be less positions to play minor pentatonic scales like A, B, C?
thanx for helping!

You have it, all except for the part about there being less positions for other keys. What happens, is that you would just start over again with the first position. For instance in the G minor pentatonic scale in the lesson, you could play the same scale form that you played on the 3rd fret, on the 15th fret. The 6th string 3rd fret is a G note. The 6th string 15th fret is a G note, just an octave higher.

Or for instance for an A minor pentatonic you would play this. Notice how the lowest position that you can play for an A minor pentatonic is the same scale form that was the 5th position indicated in that lesson you were reading. These 5 positions all fit together like pieces of a puzzle. So when you reach the last one, you start over again with the first one.

Numbers indicate the suggested fingering

A minor pentatonic

|-----|--1--|-----|--3--| -1st string
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--| -6th string
|
3rd fret

|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -1st
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -6th
|
5th fret

|-----|--1--|-----|--3--| -1st
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|-----|--2--|-----|--4--| -6th
|
8th fret

|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|-----| -1st
|-----|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--3--|-----|
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|-----| -6th
|
10th fret

|--1--|-----|-----|--1--| -1st
|-----|--2--|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -6th
|
12th fret

You could then just start over with the first fingering pattern
on the 15th fret....and so on until you run out of frets.

|-----|--1--|-----|--3--| -1st
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--| -6th
|
15th fret

|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -1st
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--| -6th
|
17th fret

|-----|--1--|-----|--3--| -1st
|-----|--1--|-----|--3--|
|--1--|-----|--3--|-----|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|--1--|-----|-----|--4--|
|-----|--2--|-----|--4--| -6th
|
20th fret

I hope that clears it up.
