Confusion with songbook

Hi!

I got a song book today (Rock Ballads II – I don’t know if this book is also available outside Europe) but I have some troubles understanding the notes / tabs.

There are 2 separate notations: one with just the notes and the other one is with tablature. The problem is that the tab page is different to the page with the notes. The note page is called “Leadsheet” and the tab page “Guitar Notation” but as I said before they do not match but it is the same song – I don’t know how to play that because they are different only the chords seem to be the same.

If you have troubles understanding what I mean I can scan the pages to show you what I mean ;)

Greetings, cma

are you saying that you can read standard notation and it is different from the tab in the tab part??

A leadsheet is usually one note melody. Piano music leadsheet has the right hand playing single note melody - that's all the sheet music shows, just single note melody and then the left hand cords.....
................... is this what you have run accros?

Thank you!
I think that solves the problem! Should I learn the tab or the note part - or both? (There are a few songs with a easy tab part but with a difficult note part)

Thank you, cma

As to which one to learn, I really can not say. If you can already read standard notation all you have to do is learn where the notes are on your fretboard --- that may take several weeks.

AND, most standard notation is written for piano, not for guitar. Those stacked notes get in the way, which one to use, is always a problem.

I'll answer it this way, use which ever one is easier for you. But remember tabs should become a part of your knowledge as most guitar music is tab.
