Get the book Flying Fingers. It helps build speed. It also comes with a cd so you can listen to the examples.

play fast.... lol
practice your songs witha metronome increasing the speed bit by bit. If you're looking for fast sounding techniques, try sweep picking and speed/economy picking. The stylus pick method is out there as well to help you to play with the tip of your pick and become faster.
stylus pick method?? Well, I thought you shouldn't pick with much more of your pick than its tip anyways!?
What's the difference between "stylus" picking, and straight correct alternate picking then? Do you probably have a link to some webpage? Would be great!

http://www.styluspick.com/
it's a pretty cheesy website, but it has all the info you need. You really need to go to the website, see the pick, and read the info about it to get why it will work so good. (They have pictures of the picks on the website btw.)

well if you've NEVER heard of sweep picking, then check out the lesson here on sweep picking. Then go to http://www.digevent.com/events/consumer/music/guitar_mania/archives.asp and look at the show on Sweep picking =] to see how sweep picking arpeggios can be used to sound totally killer.
Umm the stylus pick method... I gave you the website. I'm pretty sure its avaiable at like almost all music stores. Just have a look.
