I'd do a search on the net for "writing music" or "beginning music writing" or something along those lines and see what comes up.

Do a search for "free music writing" or soemthing along the lines of that.
You need to get started writing music? I'm not sure, I haven't used it in a while but don't powertabs use standard notation too?

go to about.com and search writing music you will find all sorts of usefull info all in one spot.
Get yourself GuitarPro, this program will teach you how to write music in no time. It supports both formats: simple tab and sheet with all those black dots with tails. It took me two songs to tab to understand how the timing and all the stuff works.
Great program. :p

If you know how to read music, you should know how to write it.
