Hi,
I just started playing barre chords and I cannot make all the strings sound.I have tried moving my index finger all over but it was a futile exercise.I do not know if my technique is wrong or I will get better with practise. Please help me out.

I thought this was quite informative

Make sure the place where your finger bends (the underside of the knuckle) is not directly over a string cos' the string will be difficult to press down. I hope that makes sense.

Also, try to use the outer edge of your barreing finger. Slightly rotate your finger, only slightly though. You don't want to use the side of your finger. I'm sorry, does that make sense?????

should i try placing my finger joints in between strings?

Yeah. Imagine this is the underside of your finger:

(_____,-,____,-,_______

Wher the joints are, it is slightly higher, so you would have to press on harder.

Play the major chord (root 6th string), then lift off the middle finger, and it's the minor chord!

2) There is a chord library somewhere @cyberfret.com, where you can find lots of chords. Learn the notes on the neck to know where on the fretboard you have to play certain chords.

3) The hurting of the barre finger will go away, because it will get stronger and the skin on the side of your finger will become a bit harder (not as hard as the calluses on your fingertips, only a bit :))
