The best cover Metallica recorded i think is 'Am I Evil' and the best cover of a Metallica song is..i dont know,i haven't heard that many to be able to judge.i really like Apocalyptica's 'fight fire with fire' though..

The best Metallica cover I ever heard was one of my mates' band playing "for whom the bell tolls", checkout aftermathrocks.something or other for more info on them. One of their songs is on a compilation album in Peru, apparently.

The best Metallica cover? The recent (19 Feb 2002) Dream Theater's Master Of Puppets ENTIRE album cover the second night of the Barcelona appearance. Look around the web, you can still find a site or two that has the tracks for download. It kicked arse!

The best gig I ever went to (for how well they played) was pantera in sept 94 and they did a cover of Seek & Destroy and it fukin rocked! It would of blown metallica away, dimebag has the best metal sound in the world.

Prolly metallica's best cover is Am I Evil mainly because it is so like a metallica song and you can see where they got 'their' sound.

i dunno... i liked all of garage inc. i find some of the covers better than the originals. some just tone-wise, but on others it's like they actually made the song better.
my favorite cover of a metallica song is avril lavigne's "fuel."


just kidding. i have a cover of "the four horsemen" by monolith, that i'm pretty fond of. although i haven't heard alot that you guys mentioned, and few that are any good at all. i have heard apocalyptica, that stuff's crazy, but i'm not sure it's a "cover" in the strictest sense. it reminds me of this CD i have, Led Zeppelin played by a string quartet.
