I'm in the market for a multi-effects unit. One of my criteria is that it have a drum machine. I have scoped out a few, however I have not tried any one. Which of the following is the best and includes a drum machine with multi rhythms: a)Line6 Bass PODXT; b) Boss ME-50B; c) Korg PX4b; d) Zoom BFX708II; or e) DigiTech BP200? Price is not a factor. Anything between $100 and $400 is affordable.

the line 6 bass pod is probally the best.. im not sure if it has a drum machine or not.

boss might be the most practical one though.. again not sure if it has a drum machine

and the korg one is probally also very reliable.. as with all korg products

If you can stretch it, get the Boss GT-6B- thats one step up from the ME. Its the best on the market, no question. $395 from Musician's Friend. And it DEFINATELY has a drum machine.

Muli effects units? I have just gone through this exercise and after heaps of research, settled on the Digtech BNX3 Bass Station.
B4 buying I asked some very knowledgeable bass players and owners of "bass equipment only" stores and they all suggested the BNX3 was the best investment. All of these guys were in the position to have personally tried the latest in the effects parade. I bought mine at a good price off the net.
I am not disappointed with the purchase and it has some amazing features including a recorder. I wondered what use this would be to me at first but I discovered that its great for when you are practicing away and devise a nice little riff that if you don't write down ,you forget it next practice - so this way you record it instantly and it's there for you to bang back into your memory bank.
The drum machine is just "OK" nothing spectacular but at least something to play along to. The effects are amazing and there's zillions of combinations you can design. This is a digital machine after all so does not have the absolute quality or clarity of analog pedals, but hey - that's splitting hairs now!
I'm happy with what I brought for the money - try the guys at bassnw.com

I have a digi bp200 and I like it a lot, but I had to change most of the settings which took a while, you get 40 presets and 40 do it yourself, but I'm going to look into that digitech bnx3 whatever it sounds nice, but expensive. The drum machine on the bp200 has about 20 variations, if I remember right. They are catergorized in rock, jazz, blues etc. One other thing I had to spray the pedal with silicone it was to stiff and squeaked.

Firstly, I would like to say that multi-effects processors are great, IN THE STUDIO!!!!!!!! There is nothing worse than playing live with one of those akward damn things. They are a pain in the ass bcuz u gotta walk over and change the settings and **** with to many knobs and expression pedals. If u want my opinion go for single effect, stomp boxes, and spend the extra money for a good live rig. Half the time the cheap processors u can buy(like maybe zoom or digitech) arent even worth the money, and u end up using like 2 of the 200 channels on it. Stack your rig one effect at a time, and focus on playing solid lines, that's what I say do.

I mostly agree, but I have my digitech programmed with just a couple of tones that I like and use about 6 of them and they are right next to each other and so there isn't a lot of hassle, but I don't try them in mid-song or nothing. My amp has a footswitch with solo, effects, parametric equalizer and compressor and these seem to be enough for the variations I use.
