man these strings are expensive!! i could get 3 packs of d'darrio for a pack of these. whats the deal with the price? do they have some amazing tone? i heard the only thing different is that they just last a bit longer but i dont think that should make em 3 times the price of regular strings.

I know that they are expensive, I just dont know anything else. Does any body else know, if they are well worth it then I am going to put some on my guitar.

I've used the Elixers on my acoutic guitar for several years and LOVE them! The base strings are slicker (Gortex covered) and fingers slide easier without the grating noise. The tone is not quite as bright as some people like (especially for bluegrass), but I think it's very mellow.

I have NOT tried the strings on my electric, however. I should probably try them.

I have Elixers on my Levinson Blade and Ernie ball on my Yamaha, I play both of these guitars as much as each other here is the thing since November last year I have changed the Ernie balls 3 times but the Elixers are still going strong. As for tone Cant say as the size of strings on each guitar is diferent

yes, elixirs are coated so they last longer.... I had them on my electric, and they did last a long time. But i ended up taking them off and switching back to my ernie balls. Here's why:
1. the strings were too slick (I like feeling the strings as I play)
2. The tone is not a good "rock" or "alternative" tone, which is what I play. I'd say it's better for blues or jazz maybe....
3. for 3 times the price, i didn't feel i was getting my money's worth just because they last "3 times as long"
