whirlygig, that would be it. looks hard to do
you mean that thing in the "In too Deep" video where the bassist throws the bass around him? If it's that, a friend of mine tried it (with a guitar) but all that happened was that the strap slipped from the button and the guitar crashed on the floor... so it would be nice if someone who knows told us how to do it...
Btw. I also like the solo from that song, it's not hard to play but looks and sounds incredible. It's amazing how non-guitarists are amazed when you move your picking hand away from the strings and there still come notes out of the amp :)

The trick to that would be a good set of strap locks.
I still would't recomend it though, it's hard to imagine
your favorite toy crashing into the floor
I don't think you really *need* locking strap buttons for it. Even if they are definitely a good investions anyways, the momentum should suffice to keep the strap in the buttons, but you'll have to do it at a certain speed.
I think it's also hard to "catch" the guitar after whirling it around you, without looking like an idiot :)

gck i agree that if you get the momentum right you can pull it off.
but thats just a 50 50 chance. would your freind's have crashed
into the floor if he or she had been useing them. all it takes is once to goof up !!
yeah, personally, I wouldn't do it if I didn't have locking strap buttons.
However, we're still looking for a short description of *how* to actually do it. There must be a trick to get it whirling around AND come back into a position where you can catch it.
If anyone knows, please post it, it would be a cool trick to impress people without actually playing anything :)

Pez's guide to the whirlygig(tm)....
Firstly, i wouldnt recommend EVER trying this with a plugged in guitar as your likely to strangle yourself, so if you intend to do this while playing buy a wireless system.
Secondly, strap locks are a VERY good idea.
right, actually its really easy to do, grab the base of the guitar (right next to the strap button) and push upwards and around your shoulder with ALOT of force, you need to push it hard enough so it gains enough momentum to keep the strap tight around you body if ya get what i mean. If you dont puch hard enough the guitar will arc upwards, the strap will slacken and you WILL injure yourself :)
if you pushed it hard enough it'll naturally swing back round into your normal playing position, and i find its easiest to grab it by the neck on the way back up. This will place it fairly much into a postion from which you can instantly start playing.
looks good, chances of pulling it off faultlessly are slim though - if you value your guitar in any way i really wouldn't recommend it.

NOW THAT'S GOOD ADVICE.
oh! looks like I completely forgot about the guitar cable...
Another nice thing to do: Yesterday, I watched an Yngwie Malmsteen DVD with a friend (it's the recording of a live concert in Brazil, 1998). During the first song, he throws his pick into the air, then kicks it with his foot high into the air and catches it when it comes down again...
Looks very cool in the video, however, I think it's rather hard to do without kicking the pick somewhere into the audience, and you can't see what he's doing when you aren't very close to the stage...
But it's still a nice trick to practice if you have nothing better to do :)
he mustve not caught it at leaaaast once!
