I just started taking guitar lessons. My instructor wants me to learn the C, G, & D chords for our next lesson. My problem is, my fingers will not make the stretch to get the C or G chords.
On the G chord I can finger the 5th and 6th strings but as soon as I try to finger the 1st string my 2nd finger hits the 5th string and my 1st finger hits the 4th string. I have tried this chord using fingers 1, 2 & 3 and fingers 2, 3 & 4.
On the C chord I can finger the 4th and 5th strings but as soon as I try to finger the 2nd string, my 2nd finger hits the 3rd string and my 3rd finger hits the 4th string. Also, the stretch from the 1st fret to the 3rd fret is too much for my fingers. By time I get to the 3rd fret, my finger is too far away from the fret and all I get is vibration. I don’t have small hands so it is getting very frustrating.
I have practiced for hours and I am not getting any closer to playing these chords. Is there a trick to this? Can someone offer some advice?
