I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND USING YOUR GUITAR GEAR WITH
YOUR BASS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. WATCH YOUR GAIN, BASS, AND
VOLUME LEVELS ON YOUR AMP.
MY MAIN CONCERN WOULD BE THE SPEAKER(S) IN YOUR AMP.
LOW FREQUENCIES FROM A BASS CAN PERMANENTLY DAMAGE THOSE SPEAKERS!

yeah putting a bass through a guitar amp will blow the speaker cone at loud volumes.

as long as you keep the volume low you should be alright

I just bought a Charvel bass today and I play it through a tiny Korean-made "Juggs" guitar amp w/ a 3 inch speaker. The guy at the store told me not to play it through my bigger guitar amp because the loud volume would definitely blow the speakers. If you use a guitar amp, use a crappy one like I do, so that you don't get upset if it breaks.

Or just get a bass amp, playing a bass through a guitar amp is like buying a pair of underpants 3 sizes too small, doesn't fit properly and severely restrictive.

Bass amps cost money. Why else would he be asking such a question?

And I'm telling him it's not a good idea.

not a good idea if for no other reason than your bass will sound horrible through most guitar amps

I wouldn't reccomend playing a bass on a guitar amp. When I tried it, I managed to blow the fusey thing in my lead and the plug i was using! Dunno how the hell that happened.

lol

It's ok to do. But you will overdrive the speaker and possibly blow it if you turn it up loud. I used to do that with my old crate GX15 to get distorted bass tones.

Don't play a concert with a guitar amp playing bass!

Yes you can play guitar on a bass amp. The original marshalls were bassed of the Fender 59 bassman. People just found guitars sounded great through it.

i went through a guitar amp when i first got my bass- it doesnt sound too hot because the EQ. is all set up differntly, plus my bass seemed loads quieter through it. I dont know how anyone manages to play through a 3" speaker though- doesnt it just rattle and buzz all the time because its too small to handle the frequencies?

ps. it works both ways with the bassman thing- leo fender originally intended it to be a guitar amp, it just sounded better with bass.
