allright, i've eventually settled on buying a custom strat-copy from Warmoth custom shop, but the question remains on what pickups to install. Currently it has "duncan-design" Single/Single/H-B pickups in it, I know nothing about these "duncan-design" things, but i assume they are sh*te knock-offs of real S-D's... anyone know ???

here's the crunch, who can offer advice on what the ideal pickups YOU would install to achieve an SRV, Hendrix, John Fruciante type sound, bearing in mind I play mostly blues and/or funk and i want top notch clean and overdriven tone...

all suggestions much appreciated....

I would go with Duncan alnico II pro single coils at the neck and middle. You may want the custom staggered single coil p/u, it's described as SRV tone. You're going to want a low output pickup for the bridge if you really want good blues tone. The Alnico II Pro Humbucker for bridge position would be pretty sweet.

For my style I'd have two cool rails and a duncan custom or invader. Or the EMG KH-20 strat pickgaurd. It's got two EMG S pickups and an EMG-81. But I play metal and rock and sometimes I'll do blues. I am all about tonal versatility with my setup.
