All the notes in a scale are not meant to be played simultianiously like a chord but individually like in a solo.
I think Shawn - Cyberfret, can explain this in more detail than I ever could.

There are a couple of ways that you will see scale charts written. One way is from the same perspective as a chord chord. But you are not going to play all of the notes at the same time like a chord. You are going to start from the lowest sounding note, work your way to the highest sounding, and return again to the lowest note again.

Scale charts are also commonly written from the same perspective as tablature. So the bottom line is the 6th string, and the top line is the first string.
Here is a major scale written from this perspective. The numbers are what fingers you would use. You really need to get used to both ways of seeing scales written......both are used equally.
|-1-|-2-|---|---| -1st string
|---|-2-|---|-4-|
|-1-|---|-3-|-4-|
|-1-|---|-3-|-4-|
|-1-|-2-|---|-4-|
|---|-2-|---|-4-| -6th string
This scale form can be played anywhere on the neck of the guitar. What ever the name of the note is that you play with your 2nd finger on the 6th string will be the name of the scale. If you play this so that your 2nd finger is on an A note, then it would be an A major scale. If your 2nd finger is on a G note, then it is a G major scale.
There are many ways that you can play a major scale on the neck of the guitar. This is the most basic and should be learned first. The CAGED system is one set of scale forms, and there are others. If you are a beginner they are probably all more than I would concern yourself with at the moment. I would start with the 5 basic scale forms that are in the following lesson. Then you can learn other ways to play them as you progress.

I think it's a good idea to learn the "formula" that creates a scale, i.e. how many half-/fullsteps there are between the notes of a certain scale.
Then you can find your own fingerings for different scales.

The Berklee guitar method book is a good place to learn, movable fingerings, which can be used up and down the neck for major and minor scales
