silly question but wat on earth are they? they look just like guitars

The're still guitars, it's just that they have longer necks which allow you to have a lower tuning without the strings going all floppy. It's usually tuned the same as the lower 6 strings on a seven string. Baritone is probably some latin word - I'm not sure though.
