I read in an interview of Slash that he sometimes plays slide guitar using underhand style and sometimes using overhand style. What's the difference between underhand and overhand style?

That's more of a question for the techniques forum :)

I don't exactly know but it sounds to me like underhand would be the the same left hand position that you use for normal playing(hand under the neck) and overhand would be simply over the top of the neck. I don't know if the second one has any advantages or if it's just for show - maybe for getting to the higher frets with ease - I'm not sure.

Well, according to Slash, you can get a wilder vibrato overhand than underhand. To play overhand, do you mean that you should put your whole hand over the neck including the thumb?or would you put your hand more vertical but still place your thumb behind the neck?

I would put my whole hand over the top, so that the fat E string is nearest my palm.
