Hey guys, I have been playing for ohhh I dunno about 2 years now, and I have familiarized myself with the notes on the neck of the guitar on the low E string fairly as well as high E (hence they are the same) and A string but I just can't seem to find an efficient method of learning the notes on the other 4 strings, chords seem to help a little by utilizing the root note but I am still having a bit of trouble with this one. Can anyone suggest any effective methods of learning all of the other notes? any suggestions would be greatly appriciated, thanks. :D
this is an excellent source
http://www.zentao.com/guitar/theory/notes.html
after reading through that page there is a link to a page with just a bunch of fretboards on it.. print off a bunch of copies and whenever your free just fill it in
learn the octave patterns and you will know all notes on the D and G strings since you already know the E and A strings
Play it and say it.
Play each note and say the name of the note.
Next part.
Play the note and then sing the name of the note in pitch.
Next part
Sing the name of the note in pitch and then play it.
This gets the names and more important the sound of the notes learnt.

A good way is to pick one note a day say G, then spend time finding that note all over the neck and then play all the "G's" you found with a metronome (eventually increasing speed when you are confident you know where all the different positions of the note you picked are). Then next day pick a different note and do the same... or maybe pick say three notes a week or whatever so you're not taking in too much at once. Is that really confusing?! Im confused! :(
