i was recently trying to learn basic chords on your site when i realized they're probably not the same for drop d..it sounds like an obvious question to me, but i have to ask anyway because im very new at this. if so, should i learn standard first? or how can i find chords for drop d? and when playing the chords how do you know which frets to use?
besides that your site is awesome.. i dont have money for lessons, and im thinking ill probably be able to earn a lot with this site in the meantime... thank you, i will continue to spport your sponsors..

If you learn how to work out what notes make up any chord you can then transpose those chords into any tuning you like.
For example, E major is E G# B.
el--0----
Bl--0-------
Gl--1-------
Dl--2------
Al--2------
El--0-----
If it was drop D tuning you would play the second fret on the 6th string (instead of open) which would make it an E.
Try these lessons, constructing major scales and basic chord construction as well as the other theory lessons.

I hope that helps.

You really need to learn standard tuning first. Even if you are playing a lot of songs that use Drop D tuning. A lot of modern rock that uses Drop D tuning uses almost exclusively the power chord. And in Drop D tuning your are just going to bar your finger across the 6th, 5th and 4th strings at any fret for a power chord.
Here is a link for some other Drop D chords to try.
