I'm not really sure where to put this thread, so I'll just stick it in the most visited forum. :D

I was sick of getting whooped by Metallica's solos and Joe Satriani, so I found an easier solo to play: The 'Ordinary World' solo by Duran Duran. The problem is that it's way too easy to play, to the point where it's almost no fun. How about some ideas for more 'intermediate' solos.

I would try the Neal Schon solo on the main page, but I've never heard it played correctly so I feel I can't reproduce it.

Thanks.

Actually, I think I did a pretty good job of playing it correctly in the lesson :) I am guessing that you meant that you have not heard the original. Go to MusicCity.com and download the song. If you like it, and become a Journey fan buy some CDs. But if you just want to play this solo, download it.

Try these

AC/DC - You Shook me all night long
Metallica - Intro to One
Guns and Roses - Patience
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
Mountain - Mississippi Queen
Weezer - Say it ain't so

Thanks for your help, Shawn.

I wasn't referring to a lack of playing ability, but rather my extremely poor internet connection; 9600 bps just doesn't cut it. I don't have realplayer because I've never been able to stay connected long enough to get it all. MP3s? Forget those!

In 3 weeks I'll be connected to a 100mpbs network with a T-3 for internet access. I'm counting the days...

To Crazy Fingers:

Here it is, months later, and I'm actually just reading this post for the first time ... I'm a Schon fan, as a lot of people here know, so the mention of Neal caused me to stop...

Did you get a chance to try the "City of the Angels" solo? Just curious... Actually, I don't have the nerve... Neal's stuff intimidates me, which is sad 'cause he's my favorite guitarist, but he's just too fast for me, or too technical. But of course, some of his stuff is easier than others.

I would dearly love to do the "Who's Crying Now" outro solo. That was an EXTREMELY simple solo. Neal once commented he just more-or-less threw it together back in the early 80's, but afterward he was absolutely blown away by how much people loved that solo, 'cause he was just in one of his "moods" at the time and wasn't trying real hard -- my words, not his ... :D If I ever get the chance to meet him again, I'm gonna ask him about it.

Anyway, I may try that one yet... The only bad thing is all those dadgum bends and vibrato that Neal seems to love doing all the time... LOL

Yeah, californication solo is fun and not too hard.
