Well I was extremely pleased with my purchase of a Takamine EG531C, which I bought used from Guitar Center a couple days ago...up until I just discovered some hideous little cracks located where the fingerboard meets the body. Looks like the board is severing from the rest of the guitar.

There are 2 cracks on either side, one abot a quarter of an inch in length, pretty small. The other is about an inch long and I can fit the tip on my pick in it. It stretches from the 15th to the 20th fret.

What should I do? Will this affect the tone? Should I bring it back? Get it repaired? Don't sweat it?

Thanks for the input.

Brad

there is nothing good about what is happening to you guitar... take it back if you can, you could be looking at a MAJOR re-work

is the finger board bound? if so, does it go deeper than the binding? still not good tho

No, it's not bound. The smaller severance occurs right where the finger board and the body make a 90 degree angle...know what I mean?

I would suggest taking it to a guitar repairman have it looked at (I can't see it very well from here). Don't go to guitar center to have it looked at, go somewhere else. then go to guitar center and see what they will do for ya after you tell them what the other guy found. It might be nothing more than a crack in the finish.... but I wouldn't bet on that, look at where the neck mates to the side of the body, is there a crack there? Sound to me like the neck is pulling off, if it is, there will be a crack where the neck joins the body side.
