Anyone know what type of coax I'd be looking for for building my own guitar cables? Is impedence the main factor? Suggestions? Past experiences?
Thanks

Hmm, well I haven't ever built my own cables before. I've repaired a few old ones though. I'd say just get a spool of guitar cable. People at radio shack should know what ya need. I'm thinking one of the companies in musicans friend sells guitar cable by the spool. I believe that the type of cable really doesn't matter, just as long as it's shielded.

Hey Coffee.
Get two types of cable.
You'll want some heavy duty cable from your guitar to your amp/pedal, what ever. It takes a lickin'. It gets twisted, stepped on, tangles and pulled. Get what you can afford.
If you use pedals, all you need is regular cable since they just lay around out of the way most of the time.
If you have more than one pedal, I'd recommend the L jacks so your pedals can take up less room, instead of the long straight in jacks.
My cousin makes his, mine, cables for all the bands around these parts and makes them top quality and $ cheap. Cost a bundle in the store to buy them. He's outta state right now or I'd ask him the techie questions. I know what he'd probably say though,,,,
"Get what ya can afford, talk to the sales person about the quailty of what ever line of cable they use. They can tell ya all about what they have in stock. Get the best Jacks you can afford too."
Hope it helps.

Ya know what's ironic about what you said... the heavy duty cables I spend 35 bucks on for a 25' cable last the least ammount of time. I got a cheap little cable that came with my epiphone that's lasted me for a few years. It looks like it would break in a day of playing... A friend of mine bought a 50 dollar monster cable, it broke after a few months of normal playing conditions. It's lifetime warranty, but it doesn't last that long. I guess that's all just luck, but it's obviously pure irony!

Hey Viper.
It's happened to me also. I haven't used store bought cable in a long time.
My cousin uses a heavy cable. Buys it on the 100 foot spool. About, if I remember right, $1.40 per foot, maybe more. He gets if from a electrical supply company in Tacoma.
I've never seen this cable in a music store. I have seen it used with bands that are on the road a lot.
Next concert you go to, look at the cables laying on the floor of the stage. That's the stuff I'm talking about. Not the stuff in music stores.
I can add more on this thread if you want when he returns.
It has a number and I don't know it.

I'd love to know the RG number of that cable as well. Thanks for the input people.
