If I wrote a riff like:
1---------0-------------0---------------
2-------0--0----------0--0-------------
3-----5------5------5------5-----------
4---4----------4--5----------5---------
5-6--------------7-------------7--------
6-----------------------------------------

How would I choose which power chords to use in a chord progression for another section of the song but still keeping the same feel and sound of the riff. I really need help cause this is keeping me from writing good songs.

it depends what key it is in. try out a few different 5-chrd patterns in one key, find the key for your song, and then use the good patern u found in the key.

EX:say if ur song is in the key of C ( i didnt mind to check for the key so i dont know ) check out a few chord progression patterns like I III V ( you play the first chord in that key then the third and then the fifth chord ). so if you put it into the key of C you'd be playing something like this:

C5 E5 G5
|------------------------------------------------
|------------------------------------------------
|--5-5-5-5-9-9-9-9--------------------------
|--5-5-5-5-9-9-9-9-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5------
|--3-3-3-3-7-7-7-7-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5------
|-----------------------3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3------

C major scale: C D E F G A B C
I II III IV V VI VII VIII(I)
C is the first note in the key of C so you play C5 for the I chord, then the third note is E so you play E5, the fifth is G so its G5.

its pretty easy if you know what ur doin. i hope this all makes sense to you.
