View Full Version : Vibrato during a bend
Hey all, hows it going. This thing's been bothering me for a while, I can do vibrato fine in any normal circumstance. But, when I do a bend, it gets really tough to get a noticable vibrato without accidently releasing the bend. I know some guitarists use the whammy bar to do it in this case, but I'm sure I've seen some do the vibrato themselves.
Do I just need to practice more? Or is there a more suitable position for your wrist or fingers to perform it more easily?
Thanks in advance guys.
Instead of doing a vibrato by moving your finger up an down, try performing the vibrato with your wrist, swivelling your hand back and forth as quickly as possible while still holding the note, it means that your finger is free to hold the bend and your forearm does all the work for the vibrato. If that sounds a little hard to visualise, watch a video of BB King or I think Joe Satriani also does it that way.

It came naturally to do it that way.... I have trouble 'moving my finger up and down.'
Yeah, just like... lock your finger and move your wrist quickly up and down.
Thanks a bunch that really helps, I'm starting to get the hang of it.
That's awesome thanks again guys

hi guys this is my first post :)
vibratto bending has always come pretty natural to me. the way i do it is to make sure you have the inside of your thumb hooked around or pressed on the top of the guitar, so you can swivel it on the inside of your first finger. Bend up to the note and hold it there good, then rock your whole hand back and forth pivoting on your thumb.
One thing you may notice that sucks, is that the strings above the ones you are bending are making lots of noise; try to bend with your first finger muting the strings above the one you are bending :)
