I was wondering what's a good song to learn first. I've got some of the basics down. But I can't do power chords or palm mutes yet.
I was wondering wich song should I learn first?!?

Wow, incredibly good, advice, and I just learned them this morning, I'm practicing on.
I was just asking for a basic song, without too much complicated things, so I could practice my melody.
I guess you people don't really wanna help a beginner who doesn't even know how to Palm Mute.

A good first song to learn is House of the rising sun.

I can't take credit for that list, Shawn (Cyberfret) made it and it's been floating 'round here for quite a while, I just copied and pasted it.
Anyway, have fun playing.

The very first thing your teacher should have taught you is power chords.
Memorize where they are, practice them like you live depends on it.
My first songs were really got me, come as you are, bullet with butterfly wings, and a very butchered version of enter sandman.
Most nirvana songs are excellent for learning guitar, same with alot of blink 182 songs. Once you learn to palm mute, do glycerine.
I have a friend who just sucks at powerchords, I got them right away, but he's been playing for almost 6 months, and still isn't the greatest at them.
if you're one of these people, plug away as much as you can at them, but do other stuff so you don't get to frustrated. I'd suggest maybe High your love away by the beatles, or around here by the counting crows.
Basically, if the band has one guitarist, their songs are good for practicing. (unless they play more complicated music, like incubus or hoobastank)

i would suggest Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven, Green Day - Time of your Life and Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven into to any beginner. any classical stuff is nice to learn and fun to play but start off with the ones i suggested it will give you coordination and timing.

tears in heaven? for a beginner? I don't know if that's such a great idea. The chord shapes are just variations of basic ones, but the fingerpicking and position changes could throw you off pretty bad.

"In the Middle"..Jimmy Eat World.
Just exclude the solo for now.

The solo on "The Middle" isn't that hard as long as you practice your pull-offs and hammer-ons. And it'll be good practice doing those for a beginner too.
