Ok, I only heard a little bit of a solo and it sounds AWSOME! I'm about to go out the door to get a cd but I have no idea on which one to get. Also what are the vocals like? which cd would be the best one to get?

Thanx!

Well I couldn't tell you much about the cd's and which to get, but the vocals are really good. He's like Maynard from tool, in that he like doesn't have a raspy voice. Hes a really good singer (whoever he is)

I ended up getting Scenes from a Memory. At first I was kind of stuck in an aw of the greatness. I mean why haven't they gotten way more recognition?! James sings very well and Petrucci is just amazing on the guitar, also Portnoy is a crazy man on the drums! Even my dad enjoyed it, talking on how well produced and how "clean" it sounded (verses my Megadeth cd's he's heard). After sifting through the songs I popped it into the portable cd player and listened to the whole thing through, thats when I started to appreciate the artistry which is Dream Theater. Now, I just need more money for more of their cds!

:D happy happy happy

You all are cool. I had seen John Petrucci's old Ibanez Picasso Custom in a Ibanez catalog, but never really heard any of his stuff. I had seen ads for Scence From a Memory, and some dude who painted my house told me to check them out. I waited about a year and decided to buy Scence From a Memory cause I didn't know what else to get. That was the first CD that totally mezmorized me. Since then I've gone to onw of their concerts and purchased all but about two or three of their cd's. The solo in Fatal Tragedy is the greatest ever. I really liked Images And Words, and Awake. Images and Words has a really cool 80's metal feel to it, but is definitly Dream Theater. Awake is a hella heavy album, but has it's soft moments as well. Change Of Seasons has a bunch of covers, which are ok, but the it all about thier 20 min. classic, Change Of Seasons. I got Six Degrees... the day it came out. It's an awesome cd and very dynamic. Other bands you guys should check out are: Liquid Tension Experiment, Planet X, Symphony X, and a danish band called Dueresforsog(spelling is probably wrong). I haven't heard any Symphony x yet, but I'm trying to. And Planet X has an awesome drummer. Happy hunting.

I'll bet you'll never guess who my favorite band is...

Thanks for the input guys. Anway! I'm off to buy my 4th DT cd, Awake. And the stuff is fun to play, although a "little" challenging (j/k, its insanely hard!!!...come on fingers, do what you heard on the album!).

Adios

Ah, welcome to the wonderful world of Dream Theater. There are fan sites and newsgroups galore dedicated to that band. My favorite album is Falling Into Infinity but Scenes From a Memory and Images and Words are the fan favorites. James LaBrie is a bit controversial with "modern" music eggheads who have never heard a singer with range but I think he's very very good. Check out the second half of Change of Seasons where he covers everyone from Steve Perry to Elton John to Ian Gillan flawlessly.
