CAn someone help me out with cool edit pro2.

Actually how to record

Im running a gt-8 direct into my line in. On the software ive got multitrack view up and want to play a backing track and record straight over it. What im doing is getting my track up then right clicking send to multitrack then press record but nothing happens

Any ideas on whats going wrong.

All you have to do is,

Click the little red R to the left one of the tracks, the click the Red circle on the bottom near PLay and everything else.

M mutes an individual track, where as S Mutes all but he selected track.

Hmmm... you sure you have the volume on in your recording control?

Run this.

SNDVOL32.EXE

Then click options properties, click the button that say recording, press ok, and mess with the settings.

Is everything plugged in? :annoyed:

I have honestly no idea then.

Does the single track work?

And did you have Line In or Mic (Whatever you're using) selected under recording properties?

Actually, I was chatting with Jamezo last night, and he was telling me about how that's the program he uses. If I were you, I'd look his name up in the member list, get his MSN address, and ask him about it. I'm betting he'd know how to help ya!

Make sure the devices you are using are set up in the program. Options->Device Settings. Or Click the Out 1/Rec 1 Below the R|S|M buttons.

Alright, so we've isolated the Problem to CeP or Windows then, or your sound input.

First, Can you here the guitar being played through your speakers?
If no, your input is the problem.

Then:

Alright, if you can hear yourself, try out windows recorder(Start / programs/ Accessories /Entertainment). If you can't hear yourself, Windows is the problem.

If all that does work, CeP is the problem.

there's a few things that you'll need to get sorted.

in the channel you are recording in, you should select your sound card, in this case under 'record 2'. it would save time in future if you just re-ordered the inputs and made 'realtek ac97 audio' rec1.

make sure you're plugged into the right jack on your sound card! for an effects processor, put it into 'line in', instead of microphone.

go into your volume control (right click the volume control thing in the taskbar), and make sure your line in isn't muted. just to be safe, un-mute everything for now. to access controls for recording, you may need to go to options -> properties in your volume control, and select 'recording'.

hit the ol' red record button for the channel you're recording in, and record when ready!

ps. the wave mapper can be used to record whatever is being sent to your speakers. it's better to record straight from the line in if possible.

good luck with the recording.

have you had a look at the audio prop in windows Start/control pannel/sounds and audio devices. see what windows has set for recording as you have 3 sound sources make sure its set to the realtek.

I've never used Cool Edit Pro, so I can't answer your second question. But for your first, it sounds like to me your signal is too hot. You may have already tried this, but just in case you haven't, I would back off the line in level (can access that through your volume control) or the level on your GT-8. I would assume that Cool Edit Pro has a level meter, so set the level of your line in or GT-8 to a position where it doesn't get distorted. As the signal gets hotter, the more distorted the sound. Good luck!

I think it's likely that you are using the microphone input instead of the line in. this is designed for a much weaker signal than the line in port, so it won't sound very good at all. try and get it working with the line in.

mate i am using the line in input.

It may be if you are using the built in soundcard it will sound rubbish. I picked up a second hand Soundblaster Live II very cheap and it sounds amazing.

You could try using a mic - I find it 10000x better quality than line-in :p - unless using e.g. GT-8......

Posting a sound clip may help if there's still a problem

I dont use CEP I use Sonar but im sure its the same set up within the prog.....
This is how i do it, it may help not sure but anyway......

Track one
click the track to activate it then go file/ import/ audio.
Insert the backing track you want. then set the master output drivers to your ASIO drivers for your soundcard

Track Two
click the track to activate then click the R button so its armed to record, Set your ASIO drivers for Imput SPDIF (Or your line in ) and master to the drivers for the same as track one.

Click record and do your thing, you should get the BT playing and your guitar should also be audiable.
Hope this helps

sounds a bit cmoplicated to do with the audio changing and drivers but ill have a look tomorrow and see if theres anyhting i can do along those lines. Seems like ive tried alot but the multitrack section i cant seem to work out.

Jimmy_Who

didnt help ill explain exactly what im doing.

im going to the left open files then opening my track in mp3 form and selecting insert into multitrack. Ive then got my track in track 1. Then theres out which has wave mapper selected and rec 2 which has my real audio one selected. ive tried both on audio aswell.

then id click the r and the record buttom at the bottom but it would just record straight over the backing track. Like overlap it.

sorry about these questions lol i bet its getting on your nerves.

But once say u've done the track how do u save the whole piece together. Then id need to convert it wouldnt i too say mp3 or something so i can upload it too either funender or soundclick. How do i convert and ill try and get a clip for later on maybe. Once i know how to save

cheers all so far and that did help serpent i dunno what i was on about. :o

File is probably in use by another application. Please close the other application and try saving agian.
