What do you do at 1 am when you can't sleep?

I listen to music and do stuff online like check e-mail, ebay, this site, uhmmmm.... dang, I dunno. Sometimes late at night I get inspired to write songs, and that sucks because if I play I'll probably wake someone up. :annoyed:

Alright, I've gotten my second wind now, and I remembered my idea.

Let's post playing from when we are incoherant and it's one in the morning.

EDIT: To achieve up all nightness, just eat thirty or so Malt Eggs... those eggs you get on easter, malt inside, if you have any idea what I mean you're on the right track.

It's 2 am for me right now...i just finished cleaning off my kitchen table and this one disgusting corner in my bedroom that had papers everywhere. I found a Satch tab book, and a Lynch tab book in the process though, which i had forgot i even had.

and 1 am isnt really that late... im usually up till 3 or so then get up at 6. come home at 4 and nap till 6ish, good to go!

At 1 AM I usually get some inspiration to write a song, however I live in dorms soi I can't really do much with it, and I hate playing through headphones, so I usually lose the idea for the song. But now that I think of it, if I'm really out of it and am trying to write, it prolly wasn't going to be a good song anyway (heck I can't write a good song anytime of the day). So after I decide not to play guitar I usually browse over these forums and the HC ones, look on Ebay for stuff I dont need then, go to sleep.

1 am and cant sleep? doesnt happen to me too much my schedule is exausting. Not as much as some peoples, sure, but im 16 and i need my sleep. Or so studies tell me.

nearly 6 ish... wake up go to school... go to school... it ends at 3 but i dont go home, tennis practice. If i have a match ill go right after school. If not i go possibly do homework, possibly go on a journalism quest as i write for the paper (I have introduced good music to the masses.), possibly go to conditioning for football next year. On mondays, ill cram in a journalism worknight, then playing in the school symphony after that (speed metal symphony?), get home at nearly 9, homework, crash. Ive crammed my schedule with enough stuff on most weekdays that i dont really have free time. On weekends i indulge in jammage, or random stuff like competitions, tennis, etc.

I hate my house because my parents are irritating, so i try to be at my home as little as possible. meh. End of side story.

So yeah. When im actually awake at 1 in the morning, ill play guitar ampless, surf here, read, or run... or just think.

That was 3/4 useless.

I like his sound it is really unique

anyway if I wake up in the middle of the night I have my gutiar leaning on the desk next to my bed and I pluck harmonics till I fall asleep

When I'm up at one in the morning (once a week) I usually workout or practice bass on my bass-turned-guitar (which I''m using till I get a REAL bass (two to three weeks)).

You know you don't have to amplify the guitar to make music. If you're struck with a song idea and don't want to wake anyone up then why not just play your electric guitar unplugged. Sure it sounds like crap but atleast you don't lose your idea.

I practice my harmonics unplugged cus I know if I can get pinch and natural harmonics to sound unplugged then I got the touch down

lol i can get like 14 and 16 fret natural harmonics

It's possible your intonations off...

yea i know my intonation is off but doesn't steve vai use like a 14th fret harmonic in some of his songs and I don't think he wouldhave his guitars improperly intonated

I know for a fact Vai's intonation is dead on, he talked about it in an article on guitar.com

If your Intonations off, the harmonics won't sound because they'll be higher or lower than where they are supposed to be.
