Problem Child

I have already posted this question on the old forum, but I didn't get an aswer to it. It's about the beginning of Hedrix's Voodoo Child, y'know, this cool muted sound in the very beginning. Someone told me that it's a muted Em chord in the 7th position. Could someone please post a tablature for this chord. Thanks!

This tabs a little different but it's a lot more convenient if all you want is the chord. The x indicates a note not played, the number indicates which fret. Base string is the left most section, highest is right. I didn't listen to the lead on this but this is an Em at 7

7th fret | x | 7 | 9 | 7 | 8 | x |

I don't really think this is how this sound is achieved, I think it has more to do with the amp, guitar and vox wah being rocked back and forth. The strings are only muted a little, so where you mute them doesn't really matter as long as you don't hit a harmonic. For the guitar, your best bet is a strat, although im told it won't sound the same since jimi played his upside down. You don't need a vox wah, for best results get a vox, Morley or Dunlop (a good quality wah like these is worth buying anyway). I guess he would have used a marshall, if you dont have something similar, a pod or j-station or something should do fine.

By the way, that chord is an Em7, this is an Em -

x 7 9 9 8 7

Oops. Andrews right. Mine was an Em7. I play jazz. I just kinda think in 7ths...
