Alright, once one is finished with the exercises in part one, you must sit down and seriously practice. scales and modes are important. Depending on you genre of music, start with those scales. That way you can learn to write and jam your type of music. Dont rush it either. always go slow to start and use a metronome. A good scale to start with would be a minor pentatonic. Here is minor pentatonic in E, startin on the 12th fret.
Minor pentatonic in E:
e:--------------------------------------12--15-------
B:------------------------------12--15---------------
G:-----------------------12--14----------------------
D:----------------12--14-----------------------------
A:---------12--14------------------------------------
E:--12--15-------------------------------------------
Its always a good idea to practice these scales daliy, to memorize them. then, if you have a drum machine put it on a slow beat and write little licks using the scale and some of the techniques used while warming up (from lesson one) heres two to get you started.
Lick 1:
e--------------------------------------------------12-15b---
B-------------------------------------------12-15-----------
G-----------------------------12-14p12h14------------------
D---------------12-----12-14--------------------------------
A--------12-14-----14---------------------------------------
E--12-15----------------------------------------------------
This is a good one to use when practicing runs. Here's number 2.
Lick 2:
e--12-15-----12h15p12-----12-12h15p12-------
B---------12------------12----------------12--
G----------------------------------------------
D----------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------
This is a good one to use when practicing string jumping (not string skipping thats different) and your hammer-ons and pull-offs.
