On several different tabs i've been playing (or making an attempt at playing) theres been something that looks like this - 9h10p9. I know that you do a hammer-on but then what does the "p" mean? On some tabs it says it's a pulloff but I have no clue how to do that.

Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks

a pull off is the opposite of a hammer on. you literally "pull off" your finger from the 10th fret, while your other finger (probably index) stays on the 9th.
help any?

You pull off you finger in such a way that the finger you're pulling of actually plucks the string as you pull it off. Easier to do two frets apart. Try this. Put finger 1 on the 10 fret of the highest string. Put string 3 on fret 12 of the highest string. Drag finger 3 off the side of the finger board so that it makes the 10 fret note sound. You just did a 12P10.

i thought that was only if you couldnt do a basic pull off, no second pluck
