I've noticed when I'm practicing that once in a while when I switch cords I slide my left hand up the strings and it makes that awful schreeching how do I stop that?

you cant because then u would have to lift ur fingers off the strings

hmmm, you can't stop it, but you may reduce it a bit by using a lighter grip....it's just not as loud then....

find non slidable chord shapes. Or mute the strings with your right hand when changing chords.
