Hey guys,

I've been meaning to do this, everyone post links to their sample music, it'd be great to see what kinds of talent and styles we've got on this board. Doesn't matter if its simply playing a popular song or your own creation, still cool to hear ;)

If you've been playing as long as you say you have, your rythm sounds good dude.

Thanks radiohead, yup, only been playing for about 3 months now so I've got some potential I think ;) Where's the samples guys??? I wanted to hear some others...Believe it or not, I did those recordings with an ordinary computer mic. I just made sure there was no background noise, and set my recording software for a 44.1 sample rate.

my stuff is crap
I won't post my stuff till I get a good recorder (I'm gunning for the Boss BR-8) coz the stuff on my computer just doesn't sound good to me, and I really don't have anything completed

I have recorded some stuff the same way as wise - using just an ordinary microphone. Except again my guitar is nylon (dont hate me) and I desperately need steel. I need the tone.

Wise can you play any lead guitar yet ?

I am at the point where I have a huge amount of theory knowledge and have played a few solo leads, but about the only thing I can really improv lead is minor pent. blues ;P I'm just trying to get over the hurdle of writing solo's, I'm just going to keep trying to keep studying theory from different angles until it starts to flow more easily.

I can play a few lead riff's from some songs but nothing AMAZING yet...i'm sort of half sulking about the lack of vibrato that I can emphasize on acoustic...I've been keeping at it for a couple weeks, trying to put some emotion into my tone, but its so much easier on electric...im sure its just a matter of experience, i'll keep at it. What about you radiohead, how's your playing coming along and how long have you been at it?

hey wise... I think by studying theory... you're sort of over analysing everything. The main thing about improv is playing the notes that sound good. And I mean once you have a basic knowledge of chords, chord structures and chord tones, you can really start to improvise. And experimenting is the only way to get better (sure you can study it to death and know all about it, but applying it is a different thing) at improv. So get some looping software... jam out a chord prog, and start playing. But hey, I mean theory is a great tool, keep studying it, but don't sacrifice playing guitar for theory is my main point.

Hey smuf,

Yea, I have been playing along to jam songs for about 3 weeks now...i'm not limiting myself, only making sure I understand everything, that allows my mind to actually become more creative. Let me use a little example: The more experienced you are with a particular programming language, the more sophisticated software you are capable of writing. Some may read tons of books and never write any software, others will read a book, write some software, then read another book, then write more sophisticated software. Thats basically how I operate, both with music and software :)

I definitely don't follow any "rules", but if I want to start with a foundation for writing my own music, I will generally begin with knowledge previously retained (theory), then allow myself to tweak it to my hearts content. Thats where I stand, and my general approach toward writing music ;) Anyhow, hope that explains the way I think, obviously not necessarily the 'best' way, nor the 'worst'...if music comes from it, then thats all that matters :)

O.K, I'm all fixed up now with new speakers. (I guess the others must have broke when I dropped them on the floor, lol)

'Blade, I just downloaded your version of Made Of Stone. I gotta say it's great, I was even singing along. The solo was great as well. Top Tune!

Did you do it all yourself, how did you do the drums?

I just did guitar all the backing is from a cd that has guitar removed from a song book cover CD

Equipment used was the Yamaha AES500 and line 6 guitar port The thing I like about guitar port is you can load any backing you like into it and then download the correct tone as the artist used

Was this the book you used? http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/0006133/details.ihtml

I was going to get that one but decided on the triple boxed set. http://www.musicroom.com/find_all_results.ihtml?searchby=Songlist&keysearch=%20MADE%20OF%20STONE (8th from the top)

If this is the one (no pun intended haha) you used, do you recommend it?

Cheers.

Yo - Wise, i think the reason your not getting many posts is that this is the chords scales etc. i think if you posted in another one, like music lounge or electric guitar, youd get a wider responce.

Here's one I just finished playing on. It's on the radio in the Virgin Islands, Carribean, Puerto Rico, etc. from what I'm told. This one came out really good.

http://www.docwilsonmusic.com/hamartia.mp3

Players:
Doc Wilson - electric guitars, bass, vocals
Casper Gomez - electric guitar
Nervepoet - synthesizers
Wes Powell - electric guitar

Solo Details:
Intro - Nervepoet, Casper, Wes
1st lead break - Doc Wilson (short)
Second Solo - Casper
Outro Solo - Wes

Lyrics:

*Hamartia

On the way to Santeria
Devil loves a bad idea
Hey Joe, where you going now?
Harmatia, mmm-hmmm.

On the way, the girl was shaking
History in the making
Wrong turn, yeah you learning now.
Harmatia, mmm-hmmm.

I'm ashamed of these feelings,
I'm ashamed of these feelings
I've got no self control, so bless my soul
Hamartia

On the way to Santeria
Devil loves a bad idea
Cold blood, who can stand you now?
Harmatia, mmm-hmmm.

*Note: Harmatia is the greek term rendered as "sin" in
the KJV of the New Testament. Originally used in
archery, its earlier meaning was "to miss the mark".
