I was checking this out a few mins ago, my new band is wanting to record with better quality then my $10 computer mic. This seems to be the best and cheapest alternative, what do you think?

I don't really think that would work out for a band, if it was just you i think it'd be fine, but i'm pretty sure that is made just for the guitarist, i think you should buy a higher quality mic.

So you mean just a better mic for the pc would be good eh? That works for me, do you have any that you recommend? Also since I am running through just my built in motherboard sound card I suppose I will need a adapter to be able to hook a real mic up.

Yeah, thats not really a mic at all... its made just to plug your guitar or line out from your amp.
i think you would want to look into a better mic... also you may want to move around, playing in a room too big or too small will hurt sound quality. thats a whole different subject though, for the most part i would start by upgrading your mic then maybe your sound card on your computer.

you can get a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter at radio shack... but the more devices you run your sound through the more its going to lack in original tone. which is where the new Sound card will come in. The sound card will process a more original tone plus it will have 1/4" jacks

Thanks for the info guys. Do you have any clue on a good decent sound card that I can use for this without going to pricey?

ahhh crap... offhand i cant think of one but i looked into them a few months back and had a pretty good idea of what was out there. But i never did buy one.
There might actually be a thread on here that talks about sound cards, might try searching for it. otherwise i will try to dig up some info tomorrow.
to be honest i dont know how much a difference they will make because its not something i could just try and see for myself, but i would imagine they do make quite a difference, and i know ebay has tons of computer parts deals.
for now you could pry just get a new mic, and the adapter There was also a thread on mics not too long ago.
sorry i couldnt help more, i am getting tired... a couple hours ago i would just found this stuff for you. :p

Well being the computer guy I am M-Audio has some awesome sound cards designed for recording, kinda on the pricey side though, but even their cheap ones should be a big improvement to onboard audio as for mic a Shure SM57 is very nice. You could also get a multi track if you want, but multi tracks aren't my specialty I don't know much about them. Good luck!

All the line 6 does is take your guitar direct out to USB. It's a fact that recording direct does not sound as good as mic'ing a speaker cab. I'm sure line 6 added some guitary eq settings to accomodate for this... but that -would- get the job done.
I myself record direct out through an ADA Microcab II which sounds great. Should be getting a MOTU 828 mkII pretty soon... damn you ebay. :mad2:
