What tunings do you like to ues? I'm a fan of open G myself, but I've fooled around with A, D, E and even C.

A or C is what I typically use, but have played with 7th and minor tunings as well. what type of slide and what finger do you use it on?

I like a chrome slide mostly, but sometimes I use a ceramic one. Sometimes, when I play out, I use a beer bottle or whatever will look flashy.

I ware it on my middle finger. I tried it on my little finger, but I get better intonation with my middle. I'm really kind of a sloppy slide player though. I don't even attempt to dampen the strings behind the slide.

I've talked to a lot of players that said they couldn't get the hang of slide. But, for me it came very easy.

I play slide on a Les Paul Jr special with P-100 pickups. How 'bout you?

I have a brass slide that I use the most, I like to say it's custom made.... the truth is a buddys kid made it for me in middle school metal shop. I do have some ceramic and glass slide as well (even a Coricedin bottle). I wear the slide on the ring finger, and dampen behind the slide. I use a ES-125-TC with P-90, great tone of those old soap bars and hollow body. I learned slide very quickly, once I figgered out it was open tuning. thinking about getting a dobro, have too many other things that I want to get first.

I once bought a guitar at a pawn shop for $15.00. Just a cheap no name accustic. I went down to the music store and asked the guy what kind of strings I should use to sound like "wire on a trashcan." He sold me some addomas and I used metal banjo finger picks. I was able to ge close to the sound of a Dobro with that setup.

But, these days, I just play electric. I've fooled around a little with trying to get a Dobro sound out of my J-Station, but I'm not there yet.

I've done the same kinda thing, got a guitar that had some SERIOUS neck problems for free from a buddy. I put a brass nut and saddle on the "rubbish" acoustic, then put on some heavy gauge string (I don't remember the brand). that had a cool tone, not quite dobro tho. I had the chance last Christmas time to play guitar for a GREAT local slide played, he had a old National steel... I couldn't get enough of that sound, we did old robert johnson, muddy, panama red, sunhouse, all kinds of old (pre WWII) delta blues stuff. since then I have wanted to get me a resonator guitar. like I said.... it'll have to wait, but it's on my list.

Yeah, Those old Nationals ARE the blues. They had one at the local guitar center that I played so long they threw me out. :D
